Discounts, special offers & ways to save money for passengers traveling by train in Norway (NSB):

  1. Passengers purchasing train tickets in advance can take advantage of NSB offer - Minipris - discounted low price one-way tickets for long-distance intercity (Regiontog) trains available for multiple routes & connections. Minipris tickets are limited in number per each departure and start from only 249 NOK (once all the 249 NOK tickets are sold out, minipris fares rises to 299 NOK, then 399 NOK & finally 499 NOK, thus when passenger was not able to catch cheapest 249 NOK minipris tickets he or she still have a chance to buy minipris tickets from a higher price level). Minipris tickets must be purchased at least one day before the journey & can't be exchanged or refunded
  2. Passengers traveling with children can take advantage of special NSB Family Offer - any child <16 years old travels free when accompanied by an adult having standard full fare ticket (2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. child of >4 & <16 years old qualify for 50% discount)
  3. Those who had no chance to catch discounted minipris tickets or didn't want to purchase tickets months in advance can think about purchasing Eurail (non Europeans) or Interrail pass for their rail trips in Norway (and neighboring countries), it can actually make sense even if you plan to make only couple journeys
  4. Passengers planning multiple train trips in Norway might consider purchasing SCIC-NRT international ticket for use on domestic journeys in Norway (more info about use of international tickets for domestic train trips can be found 'Western Europe-how cheap it can be?'). For example, SCIC-NRT ticket from Oslo to Bergen valid for 15 days & allowing unlimited stopovers on the way costs 99,60 euro in total, basically such type of SCIC-NRT international ticket becomes a rail pass for the predefined route of your choice.
